Cynthia Bates, President

After an early career with a telecommunications company, Bates moved back to Indianapolis to care for her mother, who was in the latter stages of Alzheimer's disease. In the midst of various volunteer work, as well as playing piano and organ at area churches, she reconnected with the center's mission as a venue for entertainment, as well as a method of outreach for area youth.

She oversaw a $1.3 million budget and a staff of five full-time employees and numerous volunteers while serving as President of the Madame Walker Theater. The center hosted everything from talks by nationally known authors such as Tavis Smiley to theatrical productions in the center's gorgeous 935-seat, Egyptian-themed theater.

Currently, The Jewel Event Center has been host to thousands of events ranging from Wedding Receptions, Repasts, to televised variety shows.  You can contact her directly at (317)490-1611
